B.C. permanent disability benefits program
If you are a student or former student who is or becomes permanently disabled during the lifetime of your B.C. student loan, you can apply to have your B.C. student loan forgiven in full.
Eligibility criteria
You can apply for the B.C. permanent disability benefits program if you have any of the following:
- A disability designation as determined by the B.C. Ministry of Employment and Income Assistance.
- A persistent multiple barriers designation as determined by the B.C. Ministry of Employment and Income Assistance.
- Canada Pension Plan disability benefits.
Eligibility criteria for the B.C. permanent disability benefits program are not subject to appeal.
How to apply
To apply, submit a B.C. permanent disability benefits application [71kb] to StudentAid BC.
You must include a recent letter (dated within 12 months) from the B.C. Ministry of Employment and Income Assistance confirming that you have either a persons with disabilities or persons with persistent multiple barriers designation. Or include a copy of a recent letter (within 12 months) from the Canada Pension Plan confirming that you receive Canada Pension Plan disability benefits.
You are still eligible to apply for this program if your loans are held at Revenue Services of British Columbia.
