The Nurses Education Bursary Program

The Nurses Education Bursary (NEB) is a provincial program that provides up to $1 million in bursary funding, awarded each year to qualified nursing applicants who demonstrate the greatest financial need. The budget will be allocated to BC public post-secondary institution and BC private post-secondary institution applicants proportionately based on the percentage of full-time StudentAid BC loan eligible applicants in nursing programs in the bursary period.

Bursary awards range from $500 to $2,000 per recipient. Only one Bursary will be issued to an individual in a 12-month period.

Applicants are no longer required to apply separately for this bursary.

Eligibility

  • Be enrolled in a nursing program of at least four months in length at a designated British Columbia post-secondary institution and must lead to a Certificate, Diploma or Degree recognized for practice in BC.
  • Applicants in default of B.C. Student Loan or with bankruptcies including BC Student loans are not eligible for funding through the NEB program.

Note: Awards are disbursed based on a limited Ministry budget and not all applicants demonstrating financial need will be awarded. Applicants will be ranked against other applicants in the bursary period to determine who has the greatest financial need.

Part-time students in nursing programs are not eligible for a Nurses Education Bursary.

Bursary award periods and application deadlines

The bursary awards will be automatically assessed for applicants in eligible nursing programs, based on the unmet financial need on the applicant’s full-time StudentAid BC loan application, with the following cut-off date for each bursary period:

Award Period
September 15th for the September to December study period
January 15th for the January to April study period
May 15th for the May to August study period

Any errors or omissions (e.g. missed bursary deadline, wrong program code, incomplete full-time StudentAid BC loan application, etc.) by applicants, school officials, or StudentAid BC officials on the full-time StudentAid BC loan application are not appealable. Applicants will be considered in the next bursary period, provided all other eligibility criteria are met.
