B.C. Supplemental Bursary for Students with a Permanent Disability

This is a provincial bursary program designed to assist students with disabilities with exceptional educational costs (e.g., additional transportation costs, specialized clothing, etc), recognizing that on average, students with permanent disabilities incur higher costs to attend post-secondary studies in comparison to the general student population.

This bursary program is available to part-time students or full-time students with permanent disabilities attending designated B.C. post-secondary institutions, and taking post-secondary level course(s).

You do not need to apply separately for this funding.  If you have provided the necessary medical documentation to qualify for the existing financial aid programs for students with permanent disabilities, you will automatically receive this bursary funding. If you have not yet established your permanent disability, please complete a Permanent Disability Programs Application .

Program details

For studies commencing on or after August 1, 2009:

• An $800 bursary will be available if you qualify for Canada student grant for persons with permanent disabilities and you are studying at a course load of 40 per cent or greater.
• An $400 bursary will be available to any student that qualifies for Canada student grant for persons with permanent disabilities and you are studying at a course load of of 20 per cent to 39 per cent.

The funds will be disbursed as a cheque mailed once per program year to your post-secondary institution.
