If you are studying outside Canada
If you are studying outside Canada and are not able to take your loan documents to a designated Canada Post outlet, you can mail your Canada student loan document directly to the National Student Loans Service Centre, and your master B.C. student loan agreement to
B.C. Student Loan Service Bureau. You must also send clearly readable copies of your government-issued photo identification and social insurance number card with your student loan documents.
Power of attorney
If you cannot mail the documents, you will need to arrange for someone in B.C. to have power of attorney on your behalf to cash your student loan documents.
A power of attorney must be set up before you leave the country to attend school.
For B.C. student loans, the person you designate as your power of attorney will need to follow the same steps outlined in how to receive your B.C. student loan money. For Canada student loans, your designated power of attorney will need to follow the same steps outlined in how to receive your Canada student loan money.
When appearing on your behalf at a designated Canada Post outlet, this person must bring all of the following:
- A copy of your identification (social insurance card or Canada Revenue Agency notice of tax assessment).
- A copy of your photo identification.
- A void personalized cheque with your bank account number on it.
- Your student loan documents (master B.C. Student loan agreement and/or Canada student loan Schedule 1).
- A completed power of attorney form.
For information on obtaining a power of attorney form for your Canada student loan, please contact the National Student Loans Service Centre.
