Explore Funding Options

Attending post-secondary school requires a serious financial commitment. Loans from StudentAid BC or from the federal government are just one way of funding your education. Before applying for a loan, check out other options – like scholarships, bursaries, grants, part-time jobs or co-op programs.

Awards like scholarships or bursaries and grants do not have to be repaid. Some awards require that you demonstrate financial need, but others recognize academic achievements, community involvement or other accomplishments. The following sites provide links to post-secondary awards:

Part-time employment while you're in school will help finance your education and minimize debt. Many schools have employment programs that find jobs for students on campus.

You may also want to consider joining a co-op program as part of your studies. Many schools offer mandatory or optional co-op programs that let you earn both credits and money for school.

Government is not the only source of loans – some banks and credit unions offer direct loans or lines of credit especially for students. Talk to your financial institution to find out what's available.
