Pacific Leaders loan forgiveness letters are in the mail

The automatic registration process for B.C. government employees with outstanding B.C. student loans is almost finished.  If you’re eligible, your registration letter will arrive at your home by regular mail in the next few days.

Included in the letter is a consent section you must fill in and return to StudentAid BC.  Please do this as soon as possible, so we know you want to take part and can keep you in the program.

If you have questions about your letter or anything else about the program, please call StudentAid BC at 387-6100 in Victoria, 604 660-2610 in Vancouver, and 1-800-561-1818 anywhere else in B.C., and ask to speak with a repayment counsellor.

Technology education teachers added to B.C. loan forgiveness program

B.C. and Canada interest-free application now available online

If you are studying full-time but no longer receive funding through StudentAid BC, you can apply for interest-free status to delay paying back any previous student loans. Most students at B.C. public post-secondary schools can now apply online for interest-free status (see form for limitations).  The online interest-free application is here.

B.C. interest relief application now available online

If you are having financial difficulties and want interest relief for your B.C. student loans, you can use Canada’s first entirely online interest-relief application to find out if you qualify within just 48 hours. Log on to the secure section of the B.C. Student Loan Service Bureau website to apply.

New document OK for protected persons

If you are a protected person applying for StudentAid BC funding, a copy of your notice of decision issued by the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada will be accepted as evidence of your status.

Premier launches scholarships, fellowships, loan forgiveness

Pacific Leaders scholarships, research fellowships and student loan forgiveness are part of a new program announced by Premier Gordon Campbell that will give the B.C. Public Service a competitive edge in recruiting and retaining top employees for the future.

The Pacific Leaders program includes:

  • 20 graduate student fellowships of $20,000 to be awarded each year to talented academics conducting research related to government priorities and in areas of current and future skills shortages.
  • A program to forgive B.C. student loans for employees who work in the public service for three years.
  • Scholarships of up to $7,500 for members of the public service who want to pursue further education to fulfil their career paths and meet the government’s current and future skill needs.
  • Up to 60 scholarships annually of $2,500 for children whose parents have been employees of the public service for at least three years.
