Online Interest-Free Application

About this service

What is this application for?

If you are still studying full-time but are no longer receiving funding through StudentAid BC, you need to apply for interest-free status to delay paying back your student loan.

This online interest-free application can only be used by students attending B.C. public post-secondary schools at this time (see form for other limitations). The online form replaces both the B.C. student loan Certificate 2 form and the Canada student loan Schedule 2 form. It will be sent electronically to your school for confirmation of enrolment and then to your loan providers for assessment.

If you are not attending a B.C. public post-secondary school or if you fall under other limitations listed in the online form, you may need to complete a paper B.C. student loan Certificate 2 form and a paper Canada student loan Schedule 2 form instead.

Am I eligible to apply for interest-free status online?

To request interest-free status on your B.C. and Canada student loans online:

  • You must be attending a B.C. public post-secondary school full-time.
  • You have started (or you are within 30 days of starting) your study period.
  • You have not finished your study period.
  • You have not received funding for your current study period.
  • Your student loans must be in good-standing.

What happens once I submit this application?

You will not need to begin payments on your loan until six months after your studies end once you submit this form and:

  • Your school confirms your full-time enrolment.
  • Your student loans are found to be in good standing (not in default) by your loan provider.

Is my information kept secure through this process?

The online interest-free application uses a secure environment to ensure the information you enter is kept safe.

By completing this application, you consent to sharing your information with your school and with the National Student Loan Service Centre (for your Canada student loans), the British Columbia Student Loan Service Bureau (for your B.C. student loans), and any lending institution (bank or credit union) that holds any of your previous student loans.
