Who is a protected person?
Protected persons are people who could face torture, death, or other cruel and unusual treatment or punishment if they were sent back to their country of nationality or their former home. Included are convention refugees and people from abroad who are protected for humanitarian reasons under the federal Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, as well as people in need of protection in Canada.
If you are a protected person, you will have been issued a protected persons status document, and your social insurance number will begin with "9."
The expiry date on your SIN card must be later than the end of your study period for you to qualify for assistance from StudentAid BC.
