Governance

Steering Committee

The Student Transitions Project is governed by a steering committee with representation from British Columbia’s public universities, colleges and institutes; the British Columbia Council on Admissions and Transfer and the education ministries. The STP Steering Committee:

  • Determines the policy-related research questions that guide analysis of the data exchanged under the Student Transitions Project Information Sharing Agreement.
  • Determines how the parties to the agreement can use the data, and who can use it.
  • Assesses third-party requests for access to the aggregate data. Aggregate data does not contain personal information.
  • Establishes timelines, methods and procedures for exchange of the data.
  • Reviews reports resulting from analysis of the data.
  • Ensures that any exchange of personal information meets the requirements of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

STP has three subcommittees that support the work of the steering committee:

  1. Applicant Research Subcommittee - Terms of Reference [PDF]
    The Applicant Research Subcommittee mandate is to explore the use of applicant data to provide analysis and information on supply, demand, and distribution with regards to access to programs in B.C. public post-secondary institutions.
  2. Data Management Subcommittee - Terms of Reference [PDF]
    The Data Management Subcommittee develops data definitions and standards and quality controls concerning the acquisition, transformation, integration and analysis of data for the STP.
  3. Post-secondary Students Mobility Subcommittee - Terms of Reference [PDF]
    The Post-secondary Students Mobility Subcommittee conducts research on the movement of students in B.C.’s public post-secondary system, to inform enrolment planning decisions.
