Skills for Growth Strategy - British Columbia's Labour Market Strategy to 2020

Skills for Growth: British Columbia's Labour Market Strategy to 2020 [PDF 2,211kb], is B.C.’s plan to drive economic and social prosperity for communities and families in all regions. The strategy sets out an ambitious vision: by 2020, B.C.’s highly skilled and globally competitive workforce will drive innovation and economic growth across the province.

Skills for Growth established three priority areas aimed at building B.C.’s workforce over the next decade:

  • Increase the skill level and labour market success of British Columbians
  • Attract workers and entrepreneurs from outside the province who meet BC’s regional economic needs
  • Improve workplace productivity

The strategy was developed in consultation with employers, post-secondary institutions, labour, industry associations, government and other stakeholders. The strategy is designed to support co-ordinated efforts to bring all stakeholders together to help meet British Columbia’s future workforce needs.

Skills for Growth reinforces the work of the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation to strengthen connections between communities, employers and post-secondary institutions to ensure each region of the province has the skills required to drive regional economic growth.
