UVic Promoting Action Towards Health
Being healthy depends on many things: having a secure and nutritious source of food, a safe home, friends, and being able to handle stress. University of Victoria researchers founded Promoting Action Towards Health, known as PATH, to take a broad look at the health of local communities. Community organizations and the Vancouver Island Health Authority are a part of the partnership with UVic faculty and students.
PATH’s goal is to study best practices in community health promotion. Researchers are focusing on community-based projects to prevent chronic diseases like diabetes. For example, a local produce garden and a public arts centre are making changes to one Victoria community’s health and lifestyle.
The people behind PATH believe that by joining together to promote health, the community can change for the better.
