1. How long does it take to immigrate under the BC PNP?
Processing times vary depending on the volume of applications to the program and individual circumstances. BC PNP applications for strategic occupations can normally be processed within 5 to 8 weeks from the time we receive a complete application.
If you are nominated you must submit your permanent resident visa application to the appropriate visa office for processing by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. The processing time for permanent resident visa applications in the provincial nominee class is normally 8 to 10 months.
2. If I am nominated under the BC PNP, do I have to wait for my permanent resident visa before I can start working for my employer in B.C.?
No. Once you are nominated, you can apply to Citizenship and Immigration Canada for a work permit – the BC PNP can provide a letter supporting your work permit application.
3. What is Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s role in the BC PNP?
Citizenship and Immigration Canada conducts medical, security and criminal background checks and issues permanent resident visas to people who immigrate under the BC PNP.
4. If I am nominated under the BC PNP, does that guarantee my immigration to Canada?
No. The BC PNP only allows British Columbia to nominate people for immigration. Nominees must still meet Canadian medical and security requirements for immigration.
5. If I am nominated under the BC PNP, can my family immigrate with me?
If you, your spouse and any dependent children meet Canadian immigration requirements, you will be able to immigrate together in the provincial nominee class.
6. If I operate a business in B.C. can I use the BC PNP to hire a family member who wants to immigrate?
Yes, provided that the job offer is genuine, the family member is qualified for the job, and all other requirements of the BC PNP are met. However, if your primary interest is family reunification, we suggest that you consider making an application in the federal Family Class.
