Minister opens UVic’s latest green building
June 23, 2008

Advanced Education and Labour Market Development Minister Murray Coell, left, on the green roof of the University of Victoria’s new social sciences and mathematics building, built with $24.84 million from the Province. As the plants in the foreground and background mature, they will help cool the building in summer and insulate in the winter. The small exhaust fan in the foreground is one of a very few sensor-controlled mechanical ventilation units.

From left: Minister Coell; UVic president David Turpin; Ken Josephson, UVic cartographic technician in the department of geography; UVic dean of social sciences Peter Keller; and John Carey, acting assistant deputy minister, science and technology branch, Environment Canada.
