Oil and Gas Training


Overview

The British Columbia Oil and Gas Education and Training Consortium is a partnership between government and industry to develop a comprehensive and co-ordinated approach to B.C.’s training strategy for this sector.

Northern Lights College plays a key role as one of the education partners. The government will add 250 new seats by 2010 to Northern Lights College.


Oil and Gas Training Programs

The Oil and Gas Development Strategy provides funding to support oil and gas training programs to increase the number of British Columbia residents trained for and employed by the oil and gas industry.


Oil and Gas Training and Education Consortium

The Oil and Gas Education and Training Consortium provides advice and recommendations to the Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development and the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources in developing a strategy for training workers for B.C.’s oil and gas industry.

This provincial strategy will identify potential skills shortages and develop recruitment, retention and training programs that will encourage the oil and gas industry to invest for the long term in B.C. The initial priority of the consortium is to address the skills training and labour needs for the exploration and production of conventional reserves in the northeast region of B.C.

Oil and Gas Education and Training in British Columbia: Planning Today for Tomorrow's Prosperity

This report contains recommendations from the B.C. Oil and Gas Education and Training Consortium to the ministers of Advanced Education and Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources. These recommendations outline a comprehensive approach to education and training to meet industry's human resource needs. Government is reviewing the report and will respond within the context of the provincial energy plan.
