The minister also took part in the official groundbreaking ceremony of the $16.7 M Smithers campus expansion and renovation project funded jointly by the provincial and federal governments. MITACS Globalink Welcomes India
June 25, 2009, Minister Moira Stilwell and Arvind Gupta, Scientific Director of the Mathematics of Information Technology and Complex Systems (MITACS) celebrate the MITACS Globalink Program created in part to attract leading talent to B.C. and to raise awareness in India about B.C.’s research excellence and industrial leadership. Seventeen of India’s brightest undergraduate students are spending the summer in British Columbia at UBC, UVIC or SFU, taking part in a quantitative sciences research internship under the supervision of a faculty member.

B.C. Students Top Ranked at Skills Canada Competition
June 22, 2009, Minister Moira Stilwell recognized Skills Canada “Team B.C.” students who achieved top ranking at the provincial and national Skills Competitions as part of a celebration of trades and technology. Forty-three secondary and post-secondary students on Team B.C. earned an unprecedented 12 gold, three silver and four bronze medals at the competition. [News Release]
