This resource provides information about current and future labour market trends, as well as detailed descriptions and outlooks for 200 occupational groups in the B.C. labour market.

Start Now! Work Futures for Entry Level Jobs

Here you'll find information about careers in B.C. Included are occupational descriptions and employment prospects for occupations that permit entry into the labour market with little or no post-secondary education and little or no previous work experience.

Hands On: Work Futures for Trades and Technical Occupations

This resource provides current and future labour market trend information for trades and technical occupations in B.C. The site includes over 100 occupational profiles, as well as industry overviews and personal profiles of individuals in these fields.

The Work Destinations website is a comprehensive source of information on regulated trades and professions in Canada. It contains information on entry requirements in both official languages and is the only site designed primarily for professional or trades people moving within Canada. It also provides information for persons considering immigration to Canada.

The Ministry of Education offers career-related programs, services and resources for students. Information on career planning and post-secondary education and training, trades training, as well as information on the world of work can be found on this site.

Business Council of British Columbia – The Third Option Rocks and The Third Option Rocks: Oil & Gas

The Third Option Rocks is a DVD-Movie highlighting the wide range of career options that do not require a university degree but do need some form of post-secondary education. The interactive DVD profiles 101 occupations and showcases 22 “Faces of Success,” young B.C. residents from across the province who have followed he Third Option route.

The Third Option: Oil & Gas DVD highlights 22 occupations in the expanding oil and gas industry in B.C.

This website provides information on policy and program development for multiculturalism and immigration, and the Agreement for Canada-British Columbia Co-operation on Immigration.

Ministry of Economic Development: International Qualifications Unit

The International Qualifications Unit provides information for immigrants related to labour market, credential recognition, and occupational information.

Ministry of Economic Development: British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP)

The BC PNP allows B.C. to select highly skilled immigrants to fill critical labour shortages and to increase the economic benefits of immigration to the province.

Ministry of Economic Development: Immigrants and the World of Work

A compilation of 12 short articles to assist readers in taking the first
steps in building a meaningful and successful work life in Canada. These booklets, produced by the Immigrant Services Society of British Columbia, are available in seven languages.

International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES)

ICES evaluates the credentials of people who have studied in other provinces or countries and determines comparable levels in British Columbia and Canadian terms. The results of an ICES assessment are provided in evaluation reports that are objective, consistent, and reliable.

Classification and Coding Systems

Human Resources and Skills Development Canada: National Occupational Classification

The National Occupational Classification (NOC) is used to understand jobs found throughout Canada's labour market. This site includes descriptions of occupations, an index of occupational titles, a training tutorial, and a matrix of occupational groups. A link to the Career Handbook is also contained on this site.

Human Resources and Skills Development Canada: Career Handbook

The Career Handbook provides ratings assigned to occupations to further define skills, worker characteristics and other indicators required for informed career decision-making. The Career Handbook provides 923 occupational profiles based on NOC occupations.

Human Resources and Skills Development Canada: Essential Skills

This site identifies essential skills needed for work, learning and life. Approximately 200 occupational profiles are listed, illustrating essential skills that are used in different jobs. Links to materials used in a wide range of Canadian workplaces with suggestions on how they could be used in the classroom are also provided.

Statistics Canada: North American Industry Classification System

The North American Industry Classification System has been developed by the statistical agencies of Canada, the United States and Mexico. It provides common definitions of the industrial structure of the three countries and a common statistical framework to facilitate the analysis of the three economies.

Statistics Canada: Classification of Instructional Programs, Canada

The Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) is used for classifying instructional programs according to field of study in Canada. The CIP provides a description of each instructional program class with examples of the types of instructional programs found in each class.
