Royal Roads University (RRU) offers programs primarily to professionals working in the global economy. The university concentrates on four themes: entrepreneurship and management; leadership; environmental sustainability; and conflict resolution. Most programs are at the master degree level, although the university also offers several undergraduate completion degrees (equivalent to years three and four). Degree programs are usually offered through a combination of Internet-based learning and short, on-site residencies at RRU's campus in Greater Victoria.

Simon Fraser University (SFU) offers bachelor, master and doctoral degree programs to more than 20,000 full- and part-time students each year. The university has three campuses: the main campus, located in Burnaby; the Harbour Centre campus, situated in the heart of downtown Vancouver; and the newest campus, in Surrey. SFU is known for pioneering interdisciplinary studies, co-operative education programs and new approaches to distance education.

Thompson Rivers University (TRU), formerly the University College of the Cariboo, provides students with new and expanded access to post-secondary options and degree completion since being given status as a teaching-focused university on March 31, 2005. TRU has a regional focus, with its main campus in Kamloops and several satellite campuses and centres around the central Interior. The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) offers a wide range of undergraduate, graduate and professional programs at campuses in Prince George, Quesnel, Terrace and Fort St. John, as well as other centres throughout northern B.C.
