Aboriginal Education - The Government of British Columbia is committed to closing the higher learning education gap so that Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people can participate equally in the social and economic fabric of the province. Included are contacts at post-secondary institutions and in the ministry, who specialize in helping Aboriginal students start, stay in and complete their education.

Programs and Services for Educators and TrainersAdult Education - The ministry offers adult education programs through B.C. public post-secondary institutions to meet the needs of adults who are not ready to enter directly into an academic or career program at the post-secondary level. These programs focus on English as a second language, adult special education, adult basic education and workplace essential skills.

Adult Literacy - The provincial government funds community organizations that help adults improve their literacy and numeracy skills. Find links to information for literacy practitioners on adult literacy programs and resources in British Columbia, as well as grant applications for the Community Adult Literacy Program.

Accountability Framework - The B.C. public post-secondary system operates on a results-based accountability framework with two mandates:

  • To benefit students by ensuring they receive quality education and educational opportunities.
  • To benefit all residents of the province by ensuring the public post-secondary system's ongoing contribution to social and economic development.

Campus 2020 - The Campus 2020: Thinking Ahead report contains 52 recommendations on the future of post-secondary education in British Columbia.

Canadian Council on Learning Question Scans and Literature Reviews - The ministry is working in partnership with the Canadian Council on Learning to develop policy-related research that will inform post-secondary education policy and planning.

Capital Planning –Capital planning provides public post-secondary institutions easy access to materials needed for capital planning and project delivery. This includes detailed information, forms and tools such as the capital asset reference guide, capital projects, space standards, environmental guidelines and access to the facility inventory system.

Co-operative Education - The Co-operative Education program is based on the principle of integrating a student's academic program with practical work experiences. The ministry provides an overview of co-operative education and a point of contact for further information.

Degree Granting in B.C. - Degree granting information provides the review criteria for new degree programs proposed by B.C.’s public post-secondary institutions. Information is also available on the Degree Quality Assessment Board and the process for private or out-of-province public institutions to apply for consent to provide degree programs or use the word “university” in B.C.

Government Letters of Expectations - Government letters of expectation are an agreement between government and each B.C. public post secondary institution.  The letter outlines budget allocations (operating grants and full-time equivalent student spaces for three years), accountability measures and targets, and reporting requirements.

Government Reporting Entity - The government reporting entity ensures that each quarter, post-secondary institutions submit financial reports to the Ministry in order to meet the reporting requirements of the Budget Transparency and Accountability Act. These reports are used in the preparation of government's key financial reports such as the budget and fiscal plan, quarterly report and the public accounts.

Industry Training - Industry training provides comprehensive information on trades training in B.C., beginning with general information on industry training, with links to specific sections of the Industry Training Authority’s website.

International Education - B.C. welcomes international students and the important opportunity for new learning and sharing experiences that they bring to our province. Information is provided for international students wanting to study in British Columbia and domestic students wanting to study abroad.

Programs and Services for Educators and TrainersLabour Market Information - Labour market information contains a wide range of online career and labour market resources to help students, career explorers or job seekers making education, training and employment transitions.

Medical Training Expansion - Medical training expansion provides an overview of the collaboration between three B.C. universities that has increased the number of medical training spaces.

Oil and Gas Training and Education - Oil and gas training and education provides an overview of B.C.'s strategy for oil and gas education and training programs, the Oil and Gas Training and Education Consortium and related press releases.

Post-secondary Central Data Warehouse - The data warehouse reflects student level data submitted by 20 of BC's colleges, institutes and special purpose universities.

Post-secondary Institutions Overview - The overview provides a listing of website links for all the public post-secondary institutions in British Columbia.

Prior Learning Assessment - This assessment allows students to earn credit toward a course or program offered by a post-secondary institution if they can show, through an assessment process, that the learning is equivalent to that normally acquired through conventional study at the post-secondary level.

Private Post-secondary Education - Private post-secondary education opportunities are widely available in British Columbia. This information demonstrates the way private post-secondary institutions are regulated in B.C. and provides information for students interested in attending a private institution.

Service Plans - The service plan sets out goals and strategic objectives for the ministry and outlines key initiatives, performance measures, targets and accountability.

SkillsPlus - SkillsPlus is a new government initiative to enable British Columbians to gain essential skills demanded by today’s workplace.

StudentAid BC - StudentAid BC assists eligible students with the cost of their post-secondary education through loans, grants, bursaries, scholarships and special programs. It also offers programs for borrowers who need help repaying their loans.

Programs and Services for Educators and TrainersStudent Transitions Project - The is a collaborative project between the Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development, the Ministry of Education and British Columbia's public post-secondary education institutions. Student data is linked to analyse student transitions and outcomes from the kindergarten-to-Grade 12 system, to and within the public post-secondary education system.

Student Outcomes Surveys - This annual survey collects information from former students 9 to 20 months after they complete all, or a significant portion, of their post-secondary programs. The survey asks former students what they have done since leaving and if they were satisfied with the education they received. Their feedback is important to maintaining a high-quality, relevant education system in British Columbia.

Tourism and Hospitality - This contains information on the Tourism and Hospitality Education and Training strategy, consortium, and programs in British Columbia.

Tuition Fees - This section provides information on government's policy to limit fee increases to the rate of inflation to ensure higher education is affordable for both students and taxpayers.
