Credit Courses

Career and Academic Strategies for Success (CAAS1100) is a 3-credit, 15-week study skills course for students with learning disabilities. Students register through the regular University College registration process.

Vocational Skills Training

This is a program which combines skills training with work experience. Students are assisted with job search and are provided support until they are employed. Training options at each campus are as follows:

Surrey Campus

  • Automotive Assistant
  • Food Services Assistant
  • Child Care Aide

Richmond Campus

  • Clerical Assistant
  • Food Services Assistant
  • Child Care Aide

Work experience placements vary in number and last from 4 to 6 weeks each.

Programs

Career Awareness Program

Students with various disabilities will explore a variety of vocational options through combining vocationally oriented classroom instruction with work experience. They will increase their awareness of the number of vocational options available to them. This program includes field trips and monitored work experience placements.

Job Preparation

Job Preparation is a program for motivated students who are interested in competitive employment. It combines classroom instruction with work experience to prepare the student for employment. There are 5 work experience placements lasting 4 to 5 weeks each.

Job Placement

Job placement assistance is provided to employable Kwantlen Polytechnic University students with disabilities requiring assistance to find and maintain employment. The service in Surrey and Langley is funded by Service Canada and is also available to community members with a disability.
