This program provides pre-employment skills and exploration opportunities into the work world for severely learning disabled, physically handicapped, and mildly mentally handicapped students. Students learn basic life skills with focus on decision-making and problem solving. An introduction to computers is included.

Job skills are individualized to specific work sites dependent upon abilities, aptitude and interests of students. There are up to 4 work placements lasting 3 to 5 weeks each. Students may repeat this program once to identify work area strengths. This is a tuition free program.

Pre-Occupational Skills Training Program (POST)

The POST program is a combination of classroom instruction and practical application in the community. Work experiences take place throughout the program and constitute 50% of the program. The desired outcome of this program is paid employment. Entry is by referral and interview. Candidates are interviewed by the program faculty. Interviews take place between May and September of each year. Contact Laverne Thompson, ASE Coordinator at (604)984-1711. This is a tuition free program.

SARAW Program

This is a Speech Assisted Reading, Writing, and Math program, offering literacy upgrading to people who have physical disabilities with limited or no speech and may rely on the use of technical communication devices. Classes are held over two semesters offering students a self-paced instruction in a variety of time slots. Students must attend a minimum of 20 hours per week, arrange their own transportation and are responsible for their personal care issues.
